Cisco Systems® announces the Cisco® Broadband Policy Manager 1.5, providing new features for the deployment of advanced services over service providers' IP Next-Generation Networks (IP NGNs).
The Cisco Broadband Policy Manager 1.5.2 is used by service providers to create and deploy advanced services on broadband networks. The product suite includes Cisco Broadband Policy Manager software for Solaris installed on a small, one-rack-unit (1-RU) server in the customer network to evaluate rules and provision dynamic policies; Cisco Broadband Policy Design Studio to create and deploy rules and services that run on the Cisco Broadband Policy Manager server; Cisco Broadband IP Services Module, a set of tested-use cases that can be used by service providers to deliver differentiated services to broadband network subscribers; and Cisco Edge Voice Capacity Admission Control Module and Cisco Edge Video Capacity Admission Control Module, supporting voice-over-IP and video-on-demand call admission control based on the capacity of the access network.

The Cisco Broadband Policy Manager is a platform used to deliver multiple applications that help create and manage services developed on broadband networks. Release 1.5.2 includes pre-built use cases for residential broadband access.
Flexible interfaces
The Cisco Broadband Policy Manager includes flexible interfaces to operations and business support systems to facilitate integration with existing customer subscriber and service management systems.
Multiple-vendor management
The Cisco Broadband Policy Manager can control network equipment from multiple vendors. Most service provider networks include products from multiple vendors and all service management products must integrate with third-party hardware as required to deliver consistent services across the network.
Rapid time to market
The Cisco Broadband Policy Manager and Broadband Policy Design Studio help enable rapid design and deployment of advanced services on broadband networks, greatly decreasing system-integration time and expense and speeding time to revenue.
Service creation
The Cisco Broadband Policy Manager facilitates creation and deployment of advanced services on broadband networks including: tiered services, application-driven quality of service (QoS), quota-based services, and other services that are used to differentiate service provider offerings, enable delivery of different levels of service to various customers at different price points, and optimize the use of network resources.
Wholesale/retail deployment
Distribution of policy intelligence and control in the network is required when services are delivered using a wholesale/retail model. The Cisco Broadband Policy Manager gives retail partners control over policies for their customers and integrates retail policy requests with overall network policies administered by the wholesale provider.
AVAILABILITY
The Cisco Broadband Policy Manager 1.5.2 will be orderable through normal sales channels beginning April 19th, 2006.
