Data Sheet
PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Cisco® Transport Manager is an intelligent element management system (EMS) that efficiently manages the entire Cisco ONS Family of products as well as the Cisco CRS-1 Carrier Routing System, Cisco XR 12000 Series Router, Cisco 7609 Router, Cisco MGX® 8880 Media Gateways, voice-enabled Cisco MGX 8850 Multiservice Switch and MGX 8830 Multiservice Switch. Cisco Transport Manager supports configuration, fault, performance, and security management and serves as a foundation for integration into a larger operations support system (OSS) environment. High availability, self-healing processes, and comprehensive management across the Cisco ONS Family give service providers and large enterprises a resilient, adaptable, and integrated carrier-class EMS solution.
KEY FEATURES AND BENEFITS
GUI-Based Management for Outstanding Productivity
Cisco Transport Manager is a powerful GUI-based management system that makes advanced management capabilities such as A-to-Z circuit provisioning easy to learn and use. Its Windows Explorer-style navigation and extensive use of wizards, tooltips, legends, and online help allow operators to perform tasks quickly and efficiently. Many otherwise tedious, time-consuming, and error-prone tasks can be fully streamlined using these intuitive tools.
High Availability for Carrier-Class Management
Cisco Transport Manager is designed for continuous operation. High-availability configurations are available to provide local and geographic redundancy options. Cisco Transport Manager can cope with heavy load scenarios such as high circuit-transaction rates, performance-monitoring data collection, alarm storms, and numerous simultaneous clients. Cisco Transport Manager plays a crucial role in the high availability of the network itself. Cisco Transport Manager's fault-management and performance-management capabilities help ensure that network problems are discovered quickly and accurately so that they can be addressed quickly, often before a customer's service is noticeably affected.
One-Stop Management Solution for Low Cost of Ownership
Cisco Transport Manager supports optical network technologies, such as SONET/SDH, long haul, and metro dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM). These technologies are deployed for transport and services such as DS-1/E1, DS-3/E3, 10/100 Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet, and storage networking protocols. In addition, Cisco Transport Manager supports IP/Multiprotocol Label Switching (IP/MPLS) services delivered from the Cisco CRS-1. By supporting all the Cisco ONS Family of products along with the Cisco CRS-1, Cisco XR 12000 Series, Cisco 7609 Router, Cisco MGX 8880 Media Gateways, and voice-enabled Cisco MGX 8850 Multiservice Switch and MGX 8830 Multiservice Switch, Cisco Transport Manager eliminates the need to deploy multiple technology-specific element management systems, reducing capital and operating expenses. Cisco Transport Manager has a global reach-simultaneously it can manage both American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) network elements, which is ideal for service providers or large enterprises with an international service area.
Cisco Transport Manager is cost-effective, using industry-standard platforms such as Sun Solaris, Oracle, and Microsoft Windows to fit smoothly into the IT environment of most companies. Its easy installation, smooth administration, and simple user interface also help decrease cost of ownership. Using scalable Sun server platforms, customers can minimize upfront investment and still expand the network by gradually adding processors, memory, and disk space.
Northbound Interfaces for Operations Automation
Industry-standard Transaction Language 1 (TL1), Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), and Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) protocols make Cisco Transport Manager a flexible component in traditional as well as next-generation OSS infrastructures. Cisco Transport Manager both captures and stores all relevant information from the optical transport domain and makes that information and its management available to higher-layer OSSs using open communications protocols. For example, the TeleManagement Forum-compliant CORBA northbound interface of Cisco Transport Manager facilitates the implementation of the next generation of inventory management, provisioning, flow-through circuit management, and service assurance.
