The TPCU concept is a solution that lets military personnel as well as humanitarian personnel communicate from field operations using both data and voice capabilities provided in a portable unit. The approximately 30 kg heavy kit is field portable, ruggedized and self-cooling, and uses open architecture standards that can be applied to hastily formed networks, military operations, disaster response and medical relief efforts. The TPCU system is easy transported in a ruggedized, custom-made case. The solutions provide a system for secure transfer of data and voice communication that can be connected to several backhaul solutions without changing the configurations in the TPCU or in central systems. The solution uses mobile IP, which makes it flexible and highly redundant as well as easy and quick to deploy in demanding environments. The operator uses a PC for local data processing. The operator can transfer data or communicate (voice or data) with HQ or other TPCU units. The TPCU uses by default commercial satellite platforms, ensuring connectivity worldwide at any time. The communications run over Ethernet and use a variety of power sources that can be custom-made to meet customer needs.
