Extending Catalyst 4500 in Service Provider Access and Aggregation NGN with Flexible, Scalable and Manageable Carrier Ethernet services
Cisco is pleased to announce the Cisco® Catalyst® 4500 Supervisor Engine 6-E (Figure 1) and the 24-port Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP), HQoS-enabled line card (Figure 2).
The Cisco Catalyst 4500 Metro Supervisor Engine 6-E
The Cisco Catalyst 4500 Metro Supervisor Engine 6-E is the next-generation supervisor engine for the Catalyst 4500 Series modular switches. It delivers industry-leading Ethernet Virtual Circuit (EVC) infrastructure for scaling up the network, Ethernet bridging, intelligent HQoS, VLAN scaling, ring protection, and Ethernet manageability for service provider customers.
The Metro Supervisor Engine 6-E provides hardware acceleration of intelligent services for the Metro Ethernet market such as Ethernet Bridging and intelligent per-device, per-subscriber, per-service QoS for triple-play deployments, giving service providers superior flexibility for their service deployments.

The Metro Supervisor Engine 6-E supports:
• High bandwidth with 24 Gbps per slot and 320 Gbps of central switching capability, allowing service providers to increase bandwidth to end users, deliver high-quality video service, and increase their broadband penetration
• Guaranteed QoS: Converged service aggregation, low-latency voice services, high-quality video delivery
• Service monitoring: Fault detection and isolation, proactive network monitoring, fewer unplanned outages
• Service scaling: More devices and services per user, MAC/IP address scalability, scalable service instance
• Efficient video distribution: Many high-bandwidth streams, efficient replication, residential video services
Cisco Catalyst 4500 Series 24-Port SFP HQoS Line Card
Cisco Catalyst 4500 Metro Series line cards provide a variety of connection and port-density options, including fiber and copper options. Along with the new Supervisor Engine 6-E, Cisco is pleased to announce the new 24-port SFP line card with deep buffer and Hierarchical QoS (HQoS) capabilities.
The Cisco Catalyst 4500 Metro 24-Port SFP HQoS Line Card (product number ME-X4624-SFP-E) offers 24 fiber ports with enhanced QoS capabilities, including three-level HQoS and enhanced buffers built into the line card. The three-level HQoS allows customers to police traffic per port, per VLAN, and per service.
