The Cisco® Unified Communications 500 Series, part of the Cisco Smart Business Communications System, is an all-in-one, simple, smart, and affordable unified communications platform designed specifically for growing businesses with fewer than 50 employees. It takes advantage of industry-leading, business-class, proven unified communications technologies (voice, data, security and wireless) integrated into one platform, and enables integration with commonly used desktop applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Internet Explorer, and customer relationship management (CRM) software.
The Cisco Unified Communications 500 Series has previously been offered in 8-,16-, 32-, and 48-user versions. A 24-user version is now available to help streamline pricing between the deployment of the 16- and 32-user versions of the system. Two new SKUs, both priced at US$8,995 list, became orderable on February 15, 2008:
• UC520-24U-8FXO-K9
• UC520-24U-4BRI-K9
The 24-user version of the Cisco Unified 500 Series uses the same 19-inch rack-mount form factor as the 32- and 48-user versions and supports up to 24 local IP phones plus four teleworker licenses. The system comes with eight integrated switch ports, with further expansion possible using an expansion switch such as the Cisco Catalyst® Express 520 Series 24-port switch. There is one expansion slot for a voice interface, enabling further voice growth for your business. When wireless is a requirement, the Cisco 521 Wireless Express Access Points and the Cisco 526 Wireless Express Mobility Controller will enable it for this solution. Cisco Configuration Assistant is a GUI-based application designed to configure all the different products together as a single solution.
License-based upgrades are now orderable for the Cisco Unified 500 Series models. They allow you to upgrade the 8-user desktop form factor version of the Cisco Unified 500 Series to the 16-user version. In addition, the 32-user system, available in the 19-inch rack-mount form factor, can be upgraded to a 48-user system. User upgrades from the 24-user system to both the 32-user and 48-user version are targeted for availability in June 2008.
Note: When upgrading from the 32-user system to the 48-user system, the customer will need an additional Cisco Catalyst switch to enable the additional IP phones. The suggested switch model is the Cisco Catalyst Express 520 Series 24-port model (WS-CE520-24PC-K9).
For customers wishing to move from the 8/16-user version to the 24/32/48-user version, a hardware replacement is required. The Cisco to Cisco Technology Migration Program (TMP) will provide a 10 percent credit of the original list price toward the larger system. More information on the TMP can be found at http://www.cisco.com/go/tradein. Table 1 describes the upgrade options.
