Introduction

The StrataView Plus (SV+) (version 8.1, 8.2, and so on) Equipment Manager graphical user interface (EM-GUI) does correctly recognize the AXIS Shelf Controller ASC2 card if the card type is changed (ASC to ASC2). The solution to the compatibility issue is explained in this document.

Note: AXIS is the legacy product name for the MGX 8220.

Solution

The card types of ASC and ASC2 are the same in NVRAM. The FAB number (which is only 10 bytes long) is currently stored in the function module description (20 bytes in length). Diag puts in a string – "asc2" – after the FAB number for the ASC2 cards.

Outcome

Any SV+ release lower than 8.4.x displays ASC2 as ASC (it reads only the first 10 bytes) in the EM-GUI.

The 8.4.x SV+ can display the ASC2 in the EM-GUI, if the card is ASC2.

In the command-line interface (CLI), the dspcd command has no problem distinguishing between ASC and ASC2.
