Industrial Temperature (I-Temp) Operation for
Cisco ONS 15454 MSPPIntroduction
Cisco continues to lead and innovate in the metro optical transport space with new developments, such as full Industrial Temperature (I-Temp) Operation capability for a suite of ONS 15454 service modules. The Cisco ONS 15454 is the industry's leading multiservice provisioning platform (MSPP), with over 900 customers and 30,000 systems deployed. The ONS 15454 delivers supercharged SONET/SDH transport, integrated optical networking including ITU Grid Wavelengths and DWDM, unprecedented multiservice interfaces and radical economic benefits for service providers.
Application
To accommodate the increased market demand for high bandwidth consumer and business services in the metro, today's service providers must deploy access devices, such as DSL, cable modems, and fixed wireless. Once deployed, these access devices are the termination points for large amounts of bandwidth. This forces the need for higher bandwidth transport solutions that will efficiently, cost effectively, and safely transport the bandwidth to the service provider's central office. Many access devices are deployed in remote huts, vaults or cabinets, where there is little, if any temperature control. The ONS 15454 with I-Temp capability will enable service providers to reach these remote environments with a scalable, flexible, and cost effective transport solution.
ONS 15454 Industrial Temperature Operation
Deployed with I-Temp circuit packs, the ONS 15454 metro optical transport platform now makes it easy for service providers to deploy bandwidth to non-environmentally controlled remote facilities. Leveraging I-Temp capabilities, service providers can deploy SONET protected bandwidth to their remote facilities, while also ensuring higher service levels than proprietary transport platforms. The compact footprint, low power consumption and radical economics of the ONS 15454 make it an ideal deployment solution for networks where remote facitilities and cost must be considered. Additionally, the ONS 15454 platform provides the scalability and wide service interfaces required to be deployed in all part of the service providers metro transport network.

Extended Operational Temperature
•
-40 to +65 degrees Celsius, non-condensing humidity
Backward Compatibility
The industrial temperature rated circuit packs listed in Table 1 are compatible with all currently deployed releases of the ONS 15454 system software. I-Temp rated circuit packs can be mixed and matched, as protect cards or within protection groups, with previous versions of commercial temperature (C-Temp) circuit packs in applications where operating temperatures range from -5 to +50° Celsius.
Availability
The Cisco ONS 15454 I-Temp rated circuit packs listed in Table 1 are currently orderable and available for immediate shipment starting August 15, 2002.
Ordering Information
The circuit packs listed in Table 1 are qualified to operate in I-Temp environments. For proper operation in industrial temperature environments, all I-Temp rated ONS 15454 components must be utilized.
