Introduction
This document provides a matrix for determining the NextPort Software Port Entity (SPE) version and NextPort Firmware/i960 version included in a particular Cisco IOS® software release and the reverse.
Use this document if you are considering upgrading Cisco IOS software, NextPort Firmware/i960 code, or SPE code.
Prerequisites
Requirements
Readers of this document should be knowledgeable of the following:
-
IOS version numbering. Refer to the Cisco IOS Software Roadmap for more information.
-
NextPort SPE version numbering. Refer to the document Understanding NextPort SPE Versions for more information.
Components Used
The information in this document is based on the software and hardware versions:
-
NextPort Dial Feature Cards (DFCs)
-
NextPort capable platforms such as AS5350, AS5400, AS5800 and AS5850
The information in this document was created from the devices in a specific lab environment. All of the devices used in this document started with a cleared (default) configuration. If your network is live, make sure that you understand the potential impact of any command.

Comparing NextPort SPE and IOS Versions
Use the table below to determine the correlation between the Cisco IOS software, NextPort (i960), and SPE versions.
For example, to determine the SPE version in Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(5)XM5, find the row corresponding to Cisco IOS Software Release 12.1(5)XM5. On that row, you can see that the NextPort Firmware/i960 code version is 2.3.3.108 and SPE version is 6.108.
Note: The NextPort Firmware/i960 code cannot be separately upgrdaded. You must upgrade Cisco IOS software to a version including the i960 code you need. The SPE code, on the other hand, can be separately upgraded. Refer to the document Upgrading the Modem Firmware/Portware in Cisco Routers with Internal Digital Modems for more information.
Refer to the document Understanding NextPort SPE Versions for more information on NextPort version numbers.
