How Does Licensing and Software Work in Cisco Unified Call Studio?
With the release of Cisco Unified Call Studio, Universal Edition, we have streamlined and automated our software licensing process so that it is easier for our customers to use. With previous versions of Cisco Unified Call Studio, users were sent license files that then had to be placed in a specific folder under their Cisco Unified Call Studio installation. Users of Cisco Unified Call Studio, Universal Edition, do not need to do this; software licenses are acquired and managed automatically.
After installation, the first time that Cisco Unified Call Studio, Universal Edition, is started, the software prompts the user to activate it. Additionally, each time it is started without an active license, the user is prompted to activate the software.
On machines with Internet access, activation can be performed online. The user is prompted for their installation key, and Cisco Unified Call Studio, Universal Edition, automatically downloads the most recent license associated with the key that the user provides.
Cisco Unified Call Studio, Universal Edition, also provides a way to activate the product when an Internet connection is not available; this is called manual activation. With a different computer that has Internet access, the user can request a license key from our manual activation page. In order to request a license, the installation key and system ID are required. This information is available thorugh navigation to Help->Activation... within Cisco Unified Call Studio, Universal Edition.
Once the manual activation page validates the provided information, a license (that is, a block of text) is presented to the user. This license can then be manually entered into Cisco Unified Call Studio, Universal Edition, to activate the software. In order to do this, paste it into the large License Key text area in the Activation dialog, and click Activate.
