Introduction
The document contains frequently asked questions (FAQ) about CiscoWorks Resource Manager Essentials (RME) installation.
For more information on document conventions, see the Conventions Used in Cisco Technical Tips.
Q. Where are the RME installation logs?
A. The Windows NT RME installation logs, including the database upgrade, are located here:
(Not included by Collect Server Info) %SystemDrive%\rme_in<nnn>log Where <nnn> is a sequential install number. The Unix RME installation logs are located here:
/var/tmp/ciscoinstall.log /var/tmp/ciscouninstall.logFor a product upgrade, the database upgrade log information appears in the installation log file and in /opt/CSCOpx/dbupgrade/CSCOupgradedb.log.
Q. How can I tell which version of Internet Information Server/Service Pack (IIS/SP) is installed?
A. These server software installation verification acronyms are used in this answer:
- IE - Internet Explorer
- IIS - Internet Information Server
- ISM - Internet Service Manager
- MMC - Microsoft Management Console
- NT4 - Windows NT 4.0
- NTWS - Windows NT WorkStation
- NTSRVR - Windows NT Server
- SP<n> - Service Pack n
- To verify the NT4 SP3 install: Select Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Windows NT Diagnostics > Version tab. You should see:
Version 4.0 (Build 1381: Service Pack 3)- To verify the IE 4.01 SP1 installation: Select Internet Explorer > Internet Explorer Help > About Internet Explorer. You should see:
Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 Version 4.72.3110.8 Update versions SP1- To verify the NT4 Option Pack: If the Start menu item Start > Programs > Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack exists, the option pack is installed.
- To verify MMC/ISM: Select one of the following:
When the Microsoft Management Console appears, verify that IIS appears in the console root folder. The presence of one of the following indicates that IIS/PWS 4.0 is installed:
- Start > Programs > Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack > Microsoft Internet Information Server (NTSRVR)
- Microsoft Personal Web Server (NTWS) > Internet Service Manager
- Start > Programs > Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack Microsoft Internet Information Server (if on NTSRVR)
- Microsoft Personal Web Server (if on NTWS)
- To verify Windows Scripting Host (WSH): Select Start > Programs > Command Prompt to open a DOS window. Type the command script. This will appear if WSH is installed:
Microsoft (R) Windows Scripting Host Version 5.0 for Windows
Q. If the RME installation is aborted prematurely by rebooting the NT system before installation completes, what registry keys need to be deleted?
A. If your installation is an upgrade from Cisco Resource Manager (CRM 1.1), your only option is to perform the RME 2.0 installation again.Contact Cisco Technical Support to upgrade the database.
If you are attempting to install RME 2.0 for the first time, and you have no need to change options (including the installation path), perform the RME 2.0 installation again. If you are installing RME 2.0 for the first time, and the installation options such as the installation path need to be changed, remove the following Registry Key, change the option, and run the installation again:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cisco\Resource Manager
Q. What are the steps to clean up a failed AIX installation?
A. To clean up a file set that has installed only partially, use this command:
installp -CTo clean up filesets that are already committed, but the installation of some of these filesets failed, use this command:
installp -u CW2000To clean up product directories, use this command:
rm -rf /use/CSC)pxIn the case of a custom install, an example of the actual tree structure would be /data/CSCOpx, where /usr/CSCOpx is a link to /data/CSCOps.
To remove CSCO entries from /etc/services, use this command:
rm -rf /var/adm/CSCOpx
Q. Is the Windows NT Terminal Server supported in RME? (This can be used for remote access to CiscoWorks for Switched Internetworks [CWSI])
A. Windows NT Terminal Server is not supported. CWSI has not been tested with Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition.
Q. Can RME 2.0 be installed on a Windows NT 4.0 Primary Domain Controller (PDC) or Backup Domain Controller (BDC)?
A. No. RME 2.0 does not install on a Windows NT PDC or BDC. RME 2.0 requires a Windows NT account to service all non-privileged user requests to RME. The different account creation mechanisms for this account used by PDCs and BDCs would require excessive engineering and test resources. Installing RME 2.0 on a PDC or BDC would compromise security because the non-privileged account it creates has to be a domain account on a PDC or BDC; on a non-PDC/BDC system, this is a local account.
Q. Why is RME not recognizing my login as an Admin?
A. Make sure that in your web browser Java, JavaScript, and Accept All Cookies is Enabled.
Q. Can I install CW2000/RME on Clustered Servers?
A. No. CW2000/RME installation on Clustered Servers is not supported.
