Introduction

Active Associations are a part of the Avaya Definity G3 Automatic Call Distributor (ACD) switch. Active Associations are used for all requests made of the switch. Some of the requests made of the switch remain open for an indefinite period (for example, event notification requests that monitor Vector Directory Numbers (VDNs)), while others end when the switch returns the response (for example, a value query for time-of-day). The indefinite requests also include station monitoring and SkillGroup monitoring.

Refer to the Cisco Technical Tips Conventions for more information on document conventions.

Q. What is the maximum number of Active Associations?

A. Avaya has a default limitation on the number of Active Associations that an application can use on a single Adjunct Switch Application Interface (ASAI) link. The ASAI link is a communications port between the Multi-Application Platform on Definity (MAPD) and the switch. The default limit is 2048 Active Associations.

Note: You can increase this limit to a maximum of 9600 Active Associations per ASAI link (as documented in the Avaya Technical Reference manual). In order to increase the limit, you must request Avaya to upgrade their MAPD with the increased-capacity Call Visor LAN (CVLAN) software.

Q. How many Active Associations must there be?

A. As a general rule, if your total number of monitored VDNs, monitored stations, and monitored skillgroups is within 100 of the Active Association limit, you must do one of these:

  1. Request Avaya to increase the Active Association on their ASAI link.
  2. Alternatively, increase the number of ASAI links.

Cisco strongly recommends that you pursue option (1) before you consider option (2).

Q. Why must I not increase the number of ASAI links?

A. The Definity ECS can potentially generate multiple call events to the Peripheral Gateway (PG) for the same event if multiple ASAI links are used. This can occur if multiple ASAI links are used on a single switch.

Q. How do I know whether the maximum number of Active Associations has been reached?

A. Use the Dumplog Utility in order to dump the PIM log for the site in question. If the Active Association limit has been reached, the PIM log contains an entry like this:

01:01:10 pg#X-pim1 Warning: ASAI Link 0 reached max active
  association limit [2048]... proceeding

Note: This log entry is displayed over two lines here due to space limitations.
