Cisco Configuration Engine

Introduction

Simplify Large-Scale Deployments

The Cisco Configuration Engine 2.0 is a secure network product that provides intelligent image and configuration distribution through centralized template-based management. The Cisco Configuration Engine provides a scalable infrastructure for managing the large-scale deployment of Cisco Systems devices. It takes full advantage of the Cisco CNS Intelligent Agent technology embedded in Cisco IOS Software and can manage as many as 10,000 Cisco CPE devices, Cisco switches, and Cisco routers per deployed server.

Using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to interface with Cisco IOS Software devices or Cisco PIX firewalls or using Secure Shell (SSH) Protocol to access devices that are not enabled with Cisco CNS agents, the Cisco Configuration Engine provides an end-to-end, zero-touch deployment solution for the entire portfolio of Cisco IOS Software CPE products.

The Cisco Configuration Engine offers a programmatic interface to a customer's operations support systems in the Cisco CNS Software Development Kit.  The Cisco Configuration Engine also provides speed— 10,000 device image or configuration updates in less than an hour per deployed server.

The Cisco Configuration Engine can support 50,000 or more devices in advanced configurations. By using load balancing, external databases, and internal bus technology, the Cisco Configuration Engine grows with your network without loss of scale or speed.

Cisco CNS Configuration Engine key features include:

  • Zero-touch deployment
  • CPE upgrades
  • Software images distribution and activation
  • Device module development toolkit
  • Support for Cisco PIX firewalls
