Cisco
ASR 1000 Series routers have been purpose-built to address the dynamic
challenges at the network edge. They establish an entirely new price-to-performance
class for edge routing solutions and are among the most powerful and
compact routers in the industry.
The
ASR 1000 Series offers services providers:
Industry-leading processing performance coupled with scalable
service intelligence
”Instant-on” virtual service
delivery that simplifies networks by eliminating blades and appliances
An
easily scalable compact form factor that minimizes space and power needs,
and reduces operating expenses (OpEx)
Programmability to meet
the new and emerging requirements of "any play" service delivery

Cisco
ASR 1000 Series Routers transform the network edge as they:
Accelerate service delivery with enhanced parallel processing
power combined with hierarchical quality of service
Establish
a new edge routing price-to-performance benchmark for enterprise advanced
routing, service provider edge, and broadband aggregation
Simplify
the network and improve availability by eliminating blades or multiple
appliance networks
Reduce operating expenses (OpEx) and capital
expenditures (CapEx) by integrating service capabilities onto a single
multipurpose platform
Use an industry-leading fully integrated
and programmable router engine to increase scalability, operating efficiency,
service velocity, and networking flexibility
Two
Cisco innovations power the ASR 1000 Series: the Cisco QuantumFlow processor
(QFP) and the new modular Cisco IOS XE Software. The Cisco QFP combines
massive parallel processing, advanced memory and traffic management with
virtualized services on silicon that are fully programmable creating an
entirely new architecture for edge networks.
Cisco
IOS XE is based on IOS Software Release 12.2SR and provides simple in-service
upgradeability, a backward compatible command-line interface, feature
velocity, and powerful resiliency. The QFP is the world’s most powerful
networking silicon. This innovation creates faster, application-aware
services and increases overall service capacity. That means more individual
advanced services can be deployed concurrently without the performance
degradation found in other architectures, and they can be turned on instantly,
without the need of an additional blade.

ASR 1000 Series Routers deliver high-performance, scalable edge services
for enterprises and service providers.
Cisco
ASR 1000 Series routers enable concurrent managed services capabilities
for service providers with “instant-on” service delivery
from a single, compact platform, simplifying overall network deployments.
Managed
services enabled by Cisco ASR Series routers deliver the following benefits:
Instant-on service delivery: Eliminates appliance or blade-based
service delivery, thus eliminating service calls and reducing operating
costs
Exceptional availability: Virtually eliminates downtime
associated with upgrades and planned downtime, and applies to all services,
not just IP forwarding
Enhanced programmability: Application
awareness permits service prioritization of any content from or
to any device applied on a per-service basis, allowing the network
to elevate the priority of voice over IP (VoIP) or video services that
cannot sustain latency or jitter
