PXM-HD |
MGX 8850 Processor Switch Module Hard Disk for PXM45 |
Problem Description
PXM-45-based Cisco MGX 8850 nodes running releases of MGX 2.x software can become corrupted when replacing a Processor Switch Module Hard Drive (PXM-HD) back card.
This condition can occur when installing a replacement PXM-HD and/or moving a utilized PXM-HD between nodes.
Background
The PXM-HD back card houses the disk drive containing all node information such as slots, ports, and connections as well as network-related information.
Although not widespread and pervasive, a situation has occurred in which a replacement PXM-HD-with a previously configured node/slot information present-was inserted into a node with the standby PXM-45.
During the software upgrade, the switchcc command was issued, which caused the standby to enable incorrect slot configuration information to the node.
Problem Symptoms
If you insert a PXM-HD into an MGX 8850 node that is running an MGX 2.x software release, you need to clear residual node/slot information.
If a PXM-HD has residual data, the residual configuration could become active if the node is reset or a new/additional ATM Switching Service Module (AXSM) card is inserted.
Workaround/Solution
Two solutions are provided.
Workaround A is for customers who are running redundant PXM-HD configurations.
Workaround B is for customers who are running single PXM-HD configurations.
You can find examples of output for steps in each workaround in the Other Considerations section of this Field Notice.
Workaround A
Use the following steps to install a PXM-HD in the Standby slot.
-
Insert the PXM-HD and wait until the Standby PXM comes up to the READY state.
-
From the Active PXM, issue the cc command and navigate to the Standby PXM.
-
On the Standby PXM, execute the clrlog and clrerr commands.
-
From the shellconn on the Standby PXM, execute the command deltree "C:SCT/AXSM".
-
From the shellconn on the Standby PXM, execute the sysClrallcnf command.
-
Wait until the Standby PXM reboots and comes up to the READY state.
Workaround B
Use the following steps to install a PXM-HD in the Active slot.
-
Insert the PXM-HD and wait until the Active PXM comes up to the READY state.
-
On the Active PXM, issue the clrlog and clrerr commands
-
If you have saved a configuration with the saveallcnf command, you can restore this configuration using the restoreallcnf command.
-
If there is no saved configuration, issue the clrallcnf command and rebuild the configurations manually.
