Problem Description
The Cisco AS5850 platform Remote Switch Controller (RSC) card may crash due to a hardware error. The console crash information will include one of the following two messages:
%ERR-1-GT64120 (PCI-0): Fatal error, CPU out of range error virtual address is imprecise. Imprecise Data Parity Error
Background
The CPU out of range error has been primarily seen during internal testing, but it has also been noted at one customer's site. Debug and root-cause analysis has shown that more than one failure mode can cause the same error message.
The ECO referenced in this design greatly improves the design by addressing one known circuit problem that was causing selected boards to crash repeatedly and reproducibly. However, not all of the underlying failure modes have been addressed, so a very small percentage of boards may still fail after this ECO is applied. The error was easily reproducible, and was eliminated by reversing one specific rework. This is one of the failure modes still being analyzed.
Problem Symptoms
-
RSC Crash, CPU Out of Range error: During normal operation of the RSC after it boots, it may crash and display the error message %ERR-1-GT64120 (PCI-0): Fatal error, CPU out of range error
-
Imprecise Data Parity Error: During normal operation of the RSC, it may crash and display the error message: virtual address is imprecise. Imprecise Data Parity Error
Workaround/Solution
Boards exhibiting any of the above known problems should be swapped out and replaced using the return materials authorization (RMA) process.
