Problem Description
80 PA-A3-8E1IMA and PA-A3-8T1IMA units shipped as spares may not be recognized when installed in a 7500 Router.
Note on Serial Number list: Serial Numbers 30982034 through 30982053 apply to the PA-A3-8E1IMA. The remaining serial numbers listed apply to the PA-A3-8T1IMA.
Background
A component designed for 3 Volt operation was inappropriately loaded on the PA-A3-8E1IMA and PA-A3-8T1IMA cards; normally, these Port Adapters use 5 Volt components. While this has no effect on operation in the 7200 Family of Routers, it does affect operation of these two Port Adapters in the 7500 Router Family.
Problem Symptoms
The symptom will be observed immediately upon router power up or on insertion of the PA-A3-8E1IMA or PA-A3-8T1IMA into a Versatile Interface Processor (VIP) installed in an 7500 Router. Specifically, the 7500 will not recognize the PA-A3-8E1IMA or PA-A3-8T1IMA. The VIP slot will not appear to be populated.
Workaround/Solution
Workaround: None
Solution: Submit a return materials authorization (RMA) for the affected PA-A3-8E1IMA or PA-A3-8T1IMA. Compare the serial number on the module to the list of 186 serial numbers listed above. If your Port Adapter serial number is listed above, it is subject to this Field Notice and should be replaced.
Note that if your IMA Port Adapter is operational in your 7500 router, it is not subject to this field notice and should not be replaced.
