This product is end-of-sale (EOS) - replacement spares are no longer manufactured |
Problem Description
The SES-PXM-CNTL2TE3 card went end-of-sale (EOS) on January 31st, 2006. From this date onward, replacement spares were no longer manufactured. Cisco converted a number of PXM-1 cards into SES-PXM-CNTL2T3E3 cards. In order for these cards to function correctly, a minimum version 4.0(15.207) of software is required. Cisco recommends that customers that are not presently running this minimum version of code upgrade. Specific requirements are outlined in the Workaround/Solution section.
Background
The Last Date of Support for the SES-PXM-CNTL2T3E3 card is January 31st, 2011. Cisco converted a number of PXM-1 cards into SES-PXM-CNTL2TE3 cards to ensure that enough replacement spares are available for our customers until the end of support date. In converting these cards, a minimum version of software is required - 4.0(15.207) - and is available for download from cisco.com.
For further information on the end-of-life (EOL) dates for the SES-PXM-CNTL2T3E3 cards, refer to the EOS & EOL Announcement For the Cisco BPX 8600 Series Multiservice Switches.
Problem Symptoms
When an SES node is using a converted PXM-1 as a SES-PXM-CNTL2T3E3 running a software version lower than 4.0(15.207), the card will boot but is subject to failure over time.
Workaround/Solution
Workaround:
The workaround is to run a lower revision of product (Top Assembly Number (TAN) 800-06699-07 or lower) with older software version 4.0(15.205) or lower.
Solution:
Upgrade to the minimum software version 4.0(15.207) when running a converted SES-PXM-CNTL2T3E3 in the network (TAN 800-06699-08 Rev: A0 or higher).
Cisco recommends that all customers upgrade their SES-PXM-CNTL2T3E3= line cards to a minimum version of 4.0(15.207) to avoid any problems in the future should they receive a replacement board that is the converted PXM-1.
Note: Upgrading an older SES-PXM-CNTL2T3E3 card to 4.0(15.207) software version will not affect its ability to function.
WAN Switching software is available on cisco.com at the WAN switching Software Download (registered customers only) page.
Select "Release 4015" for SES PNNI to obtain the latest revision of software.

To download software version 4.0(15.207) directly, it is located on cisco.com at the Cisco WAN Switching SES FeederFirmware (registered customers only) page.

See the How to Upgrade Software section for links to related documentation.
Note: Certain customers that have a conflict running this version have been contacted directly.
How To Identify Hardware Levels
You may query the SES-PXM card by using the dspcd command and looking for the Top Assembly Number (TAN). A part number of 800-06699-08-A0 or higher indicates the customer has an affected version and requires the upgraded software.
