Business Overview

Cisco is now looking to recruit for its newly created Software Research and Development Lab based in Galway, Ireland. The Galway Lab is being set up specifically to expand Ciscos product portfolio in the area of Unified Communications. In this space Cisco continues to enhance its existing voice and data capabilities by integrating other means of communications including video, instant messaging and end user presence sharing.

Our Opportunity

Title : Graduate Software Engineer
Location : Galway Ireland
Program Start Date : Summer 2008
Language requirements : None (other than english)

Primary Responsibilities

  • Contribute to Product Feature Requirements analysis and solution definition.
  • Assist in solution architecture development and prototyping.
  • Documentation including contribution to Functional Specifications, Detailed Design documents, Test Specifications and Unit Test documents.
  • Software Development and Coding including development in C/C++, Java, C# and other languages for real-time and non-real-time applications targeted at Microsoft Windows, Linux and Unix operating system environments.
  • Unit test, diagnostics development, bug-fix and problem resolution reporting and documentation.
  • Lab deployment, configuration and support.
  • Interacting with peer R&D teams across the globe.
  • Assist in achieving target Quality Standards (ISO/TL9000).

Professional Competencies

  • Good communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Be self-motivated with a strong desire to learn and be flexible.

Capabilities required

The successful candidate will have some or all of the following skills:

  • Intermediate to advanced coding skills in C/C++/.NET and/or Java/Eclipse
  • Object Oriented Design methodologies and S/W Design Principles
  • Web and Graphical User Interface development knowledge.
  • Database integration technologies and skills.
  • Real-time programming knowledge.
  • Knowledge and experience on Microsoft Windows Server and Linux Operating Systems.
  • Knowledge of Networking and VoIP protocols (SIP, H.323) a distinct advantage.
  • Cisco Certification and product knowledge an advantage.

Education and knowledge required

B.Sc. / B.Eng / M.Sc / M.Eng / PHd or equivalents in the areas of Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Software Development, Computer Networking, Electronics or other equivalent disciplines with an emphasis on Software Design practices.
