In the mid-1990s, Cisco IT maintained a growing data storage infrastructure, consisting of about 90 percent direct-attached storage (DAS) and 10 percent network-attached storage (NAS). But one of the largest and most critical business applications, ERP, was reaching the limits of this architecture. Since that time, Cisco IT has migrated ERP along with most of its 1500 terabytes of storage to a storage-area network (SAN) environment using the Cisco MDS 9000 Series Multilayer Director Switch.
