Empowerment Zones

Cisco partners with organizations in empowerment zones to bring technology and technology education to underserved communities across the United States. These Academies receive special assistance from the program, and they have made a difference in these challenged communities.

Background

The U.S. government supports the revitalization plans of poor communities by providing seed money, tax incentives and encouraging public/private collaborations. In three rounds since 1994, 40 empowerment zones have been designated.
