Cisco announced the shipment of its 10 millionth Cisco Unified IP Phone, which has been delivered to Bank of America. This is the second task order issued to EDS under the CMS Enterprise Data Center (EDC) $1.9 billion Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contract, a multi-vendor vehicle CMS is using to consolidate data center operations. EDS Agility Alliance partners such as Cisco Systems will provide key components.

EDS announced a six-year agreement to integrate the communications infrastructure for recently acquired MBNA Corporation into Bank of America's state-of-the-art voice and data network. Cisco Systems announced the general availability of the InfiniBand-based Server Fabric Switch (SFS) portfolio and new VFrame 3.0 data center virtualization software, the latest elements of its Data Center Networking Architecture portfolio. "By taking advantage of Cisco VFrame 3.0 server virtualization software and SFS products, we are able to deliver EDS Virtual Server Services (VSS) to our enterprise customers," said Larry Lozon, vice president, Hosting and Storage Services, EDS. "This collaborative effort enables us to connect standard server, storage, and network components together into a highly flexible hosting fabric to enable utility-based computing services to our clients. We're excited to be the first global IT services company to bring this capability to market through the EDS Agility Alliance with Cisco."
